ABOUT YOUR HOSTS
Your hosts at the Cady Hayes House are Peggy Hanson and her husband Frank Wright. Peggy has owned and operated Cady Hayes House since the spring of 1992. She grew up in the Chicago area and was a lawyer and lobbyist in the Twin Cities before moving to Lanesboro in 1990. In town, she participates in Lanesboro's "Over the Back Fence" radio show, Farmer's Market and often sings at area churches. Frank grew up in Detroit, Michigan and practiced as a veterinarian, mostly in zoos, for 20 years. Since 1992 he has been an active contemporary craft artist, concentrating on making standing and sculptural wooden spoons and other kitchen utensils. His workshop and sales room is at 106 Coffee St. E in downtown Lanesboro. Go to this link (http://www.lanesboro.com/gold-frankwright.html) at the Lanesboro.com website for more on Frank's spoons. Frank is also an avid vegetable gardener, mushroom hunter and member of the Lanesboro volunteer ambulance service. INNKEEPERS' PHILOSOPHY We want our B and B to be special and to have high standards, but never to be intimidating or pretentious. We believe in basics - comfortable beds, good coffee, plenty of hot water and clean rooms. We pay attention to details like good lights for reading in bed - on both sides of the bed - and fresh flowers in season. We want our guests to feel relaxed. If you want to have some wine and snacks in the living room - great. We supply wine glasses, corkscrew, etc. and a small refrigerator for guests to share. If you want to play the piano, don't hesitate. You don't need to take your shoes off in our house. (But, if they are really muddy...) We respect our guests' privacy. We are happy to answer your questions or provide special tips or information. We enjoy a chat after breakfast and want to get to know you. But generally we like to leave you alone to enjoy your time together as you see fit. We try to be flexible. Since we are small, we don't need lots of rules. If you want breakfast a bit late or early, ask. If you have allergies or special health or comfort needs, let us know. We believe in keeping things simple. If you want jacuzzis, fireplaces, TV's or telephones in your room or whole-house air conditioning, then we would be happy to help you find another B &B in Lanesboro which better meets your expectations. There is a wide assortment of very nice places in the area for all tastes and budgets. However, if you appreciate small things like homemade biscotti, morel mushrooms in season, board games, sheets that have been hung to dry outdoors on a clothesline, ironed napkins or a breeze through open windows, then you might like to stay here.We love beautiful things and pleasing surroundings. We have a modest collection of interesting art about the house - including textiles, glass, pottery, wood, sculpture and paintings or drawings. We have some nice antiques. We don't, however, have a heavily "decorated" home. We love books and music. Many guests comment that our library is quite interesting and eclectic. We believe we have the only copy of the Oxford English Dictionary in Lanesboro. Many of our cd's were made by musicians who have stayed with us or visited our town to perform We love good food. Our breakfasts are not huge, but we think no one ever leaves the table hungry. We make and bake everything here. We use only local farm fresh eggs and either grow food ourselves or buy from friends who farm or garden nearby. We seldom serve meat at breakfast. Frank is a serious forager and mushroom hunter and depending on his whim and the season we may have wild things to share. We have an herb garden right outside the kitchen door and like to use herbs often. Peggy likes to make old-fashioned things like rhubarb cobbler, rice pudding, apple crisp, bread pudding or strawberry shortcake. Breakfast fruit might be a baked apple, poached pear, bowl of fresh raspberries, broiled grapefruit or dried fruit compote. We are selective about how we use the wonders of modern technology. We have no microwave or television. However, we do have wireless high speed Internet access. If you want to check your email or surf the web while you are here, we have a computer in the game room for guest use. If you bring your own laptop and have a wireless card you should be able to use your computer in your room. |
