ABOUT THE INN

The Cady Hayes House is an 1890 Queen Anne Victorian home set amidst towering white pine, maple, chestnut and hackberry trees and perennial gardens. It is located in a quiet neighborhood just blocks from historic downtown Lanesboro, the city park, the Root River and the bike trail. The home has unusual restored stenciling, coved ceilings, original oak, fir and cherry woodwork, fir floors and beveled, leaded and curved glass windows. The three guest rooms are air conditioned and have queen beds, private baths and radio/CD players. Amenities include complimentary sherry and cookie jar. The common areas include a front porch, game room, parlor, music room and dining room. Guests are served a full homemade breakfast which includes fresh, local and homegrown ingredients.

We are doing our part to combat climate change by reducing our carbon footprint.  All of our electricity use is from renewable sources, by virtue of our purchase of green tags from our local municipal utility. We use compact fluorescent light bulbs and a clothesline for drying as much as possible.  We compost kitchen waste and recycle cans, bottles, plastic and paper.  We air condition only the guest rooms.  High ceilings, fans and good ventilation keep the rest of the house comfortable.  We purchase an annual TerraPass to offset all the carbon emissions from our single vehicle.   We purchase all our meat and most grains from local producers and also grow most of our fruits and vegetables – without herbicides or pesticides -  in our large garden just east of town.  We are a Green Routes business.

ABOUT LANESBORO

Lanesboro is a charming small Minnesota town, population 788, nestled in the shadows of limestone bluffs in the Root River Valley and surrounded by thousands of acres of state hardwood forests. In the last decade or so, it has gained a reputation as a "tourist town" drawing many visitors who enjoy the natural beauty, the Root River bike trail and other outdoor recreation opportunities here. Visitors also appreciate the local professional theater and art center as well as the historic architecture throughout the town. Lanesboro is still very much a "real town" with a busy cattle auction barn just a few blocks east of the downtown, a grain handling facility, a beautiful park, historical museum, library, three churches, K-12 school and a downtown commercial district that serves the local community as well as visitors. Thanks to the efforts of community volunteers and organizations there are many activities which visitors as well as local residents can enjoy - meatball suppers, fish frys, concerts, dances and art, craft and antique shows.
